Monday 3 May 2010

Hey hey there!

So last night was Monday, and for a while now Monday has been known in our house as pizza night, courtesy of my husband who, if I didn't regulate his love of pizza, we would be having it every second day for sure!

Anyway, he's still out of town and I upheld the tradition.  Yet again the positive to that is one delivered, cheese pizza, thin crust, double sauce.  No sharing, no half meatlovers, no this or that, just one plain cheese pizza - see, these are the things to look forward to when the other half is away!

So, here's for a pic...

mmmmm, gotta say, a photo of a cheese pizza doesn't look too appetising (unless you ate some)...

Looks a bit better on a plate though...maybe i'll have to do some research into how to photograph food so it looks as good as it does in real life! I might just do that actually in all the spare time I don't have ;)

Other than that, I enjoyed a quick cup of tea and went to bed early, how relaxing..

Catch you tomorrow!

Sunday 2 May 2010

So, as I sit here waiting for the mobile mechanic to come and fix the car so it will start (how annoying..and on a Monday morning!), it's as good a time as any to write last night's dinner.

We had Spaghetti Bolognese with a nice crispy garlic bread.  It tasted really good (sometimes you make a good one, sometimes it doesn't turn out so well) which made it a relaxing start to the night.

Cooking up...garlic, onion and mince meat, with a nice amount of ground pepper.

These are tomatoes and a zucchini fresh from the garden, vegetables are so much better fresh and it's so worth the effort in growing them.  I squash the tomatoes once the meat is all browned, add some good quality salt, then add the zucchini grated up.

So, cooking away,  with basil, oregano, and some bay leaves.

And it's all ready to eat.  So good, and great leftovers for the freezer too :)

Next was sweets, nice and simple, strawberries, passionfruit, and some chocolate.

Great dinner, what do you think?

Mechanic is here...gotta go!

Until tomorrow :)

Sat 1 May 2010

So last night was, well great for me but what others might class as a tad on the boring side..  You see my husband has gone away for a few days, and while he's away I have the perfect excuse to just eat what I want.

And what I felt like last night was rice and steamed vegetables.

If he had of been here he would of asked 'where's the rest of it', (ie. where's the meat, gravy, etc. etc) but for me, this simple dinner is right up there with my favourites.

So here it is, my simple dinner with a cup of tea (green tea).
and Rockmelon with mint for sweets (gotta have dessert!)

So whilst it was a quite boring dinner for some, the two good things are that I didn't forget to take photos and it tasted fantastic :)

See you tomorrow!

Friday 30 April 2010

So last night was the first of my Dinners for a Year... Of course I forgot to take a final photo so just have a couple of "In Progress" shots...I'll try to do better tonight..

We had guests for dinner last night - Cliff my husbands father (aka Father-in-law) and Catherine a friend of mine. It was a really nice night and dinner turned out perfectly.

We had roast dinner as it is getting a bit chilli outside and it's what I felt like for a couple of days...Chicken with spices and butter, roast potatoes, butternut pumpkin, garlic and onion, and steamed broccoli, zucchini and carrots. yummo...

Dessert was od hoc - muffins I had made in the afternoon (white chocolate and raspberry), chopped up, heated, with some custard. Now that tasted good, a pretty good top off I must say.

So this is the roast vegetables, and the chichen cooking,

And this is the vegetables..

Like I said, no photo of the end product...

But to make up for that, here are some cakes which we had Ryan's 4th birthday a few weeks ago.

This is the little mini one we had one his birthday day ...bought, decorated at home with the marshmallows, tasted yummy!

Then we had a couple of his little friends over on the weekend and of course Ryan wanted a train cake. So not to disappoint, and with the knowledge i'd be up until all hours the night before decorating..here is the train. Pity it looked better than it tasted, the cake was a bit overcooked and I normally cook a mud cake not a plain vanilla cake when decorating them, but somehow I don't think Ryan was too worried nor interested in eating cake at all, just the train aspect :)

Yeah, I like making and decorating cakes and yes, that is my beloved mixer in the rubbish bin - it blew up mid mix..I'm in the market for a new one now :)

Until tomorrow...

First post

So here we are, another blog on the Internet, to be either read by all the world, or to sit, being diligently updated and read by the odd passer by...

Doesn't matter! I've started this as a sister-blog to my Mum's one "Queen of the Armchair" (www.dzintrastitcheries.blogspot.com) with the initial thought that we'd both cook something out of Donna Hay's latest magazine. And blog it. Simple. She even got me a subscription for the mag for my birthday (how nice!).

But of course i'm just going to make that a bit harder and have decided to journal every dinner I have for a year. Why? Just because. Why a year? Cause that sounds like a nice amount of time for a good challenge and it can go longer if I choose!

Enjoy...and i'm very open to comments and suggestions as we go :)
